It keeps going ("waiting for so long") to win someone he really doesn't know much about (who could be "anyone") and he's ashamed of that ("what have I become?").

I think it's about him trying to get a girl's attention ("find my place in the diary of Jane") without her noticing he's intentionally doing it ("as I look the other way", to make sure she's not watching). He's constantly trying to figure out what he can do ("find out what makes you tick") and it's constantly dominating his mind (he's "sick") while he does other things ("as I lie down").

Well, actually she died. I believe the lead singer played the part in the video as her boyfriend of a guy who liked this "Jane." Jane died and cannot see her reflection. She can't understand why and doesn't know she's dead. Just because she woke up in the bathtub doesn't mean she died there. Its still her house. Anyway, her lover doesn't see his name or his place in her Diary. He reads through it, trying to find his place in it, he's nowhere within the book. He still tries to find a place in it.
