Fantastic stuff. Um... Does the volume on these JewishMedia clips seem a bit low to anyone else? I have to have my comp volume up at maximum. onderful to see Rab Schneerson again.

That sure was a beautiful speech, as usual. But he doesn't say anything about writing letter's and putting them in the Igrois Kodesh & to expect an answer, does anyone know where that comes from? Did the Rebbe ever mention that? If you know, please reply.

of course they wear peyot, according to the ari-zal the peyot cannot touch the beard that's why they are not long, but as long as you can hold the hair above your ears you have peyes. hope you understand

they do, small ones behind the ears

The Ari Hakadosh z''l (16th century kabalist) said that since hair is mekabel tumah (receives impurity)and the beard is mekabel kedusha (collects holiness) (13 attributes of mercy etc) therefore it is not advisable to have ones hair of the head mingle with that of the beard. Chabad get around this by having short payot (in accordance with halacha) others twist their payot and put it behind their ears etc.. Hope that helped.

if your reffering to the long ones worn by Poilishe Chassidm, then yes. In conjunction with the biblical prohibition, "you should not destroy... your beard" According to Chabad custom, one cannot destroy one's beard for several reasons. firstly, the Tzemach Tzedek, 3rd Lubavitcher Rebbe, said that with a scissors it's forbidden.(most Halachic authoritites agree with this)rabbis or spiritual leaders that remove their beards(following a lenient opinion)might lead other jews to shave with a razor.

that's not true. either peyos, or sideburns, always.
thesleepingtroll (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Does anyone know why Lubavitch Chassidim do not wear Peyot?

Does anyone remember "back in the day" when the Rebbe's fargrengens were broadcast on TV in the New York area? Even then, I didn't know who he was but I thought - a Rabbi that's broadcasting his message to so many really must care a lot.
