What your saying is a valid point, however if you use lighter weight these exercises are great.
Think of your obliques like any other muscle group, if you use heavy weight they will get big. Imagine however, someone you know with REALLY skinny bi-ceps, that doesn't look good, neither would your midsection.
This goes for both guys and girls, train for your goal. Not training is never the answer.
Girls just think of a woman you know who eats TOO LITTLE, her mid-section is not attactive.
