"prego" is used as response to "grazie"
or when you ask a favor or permission to do something (ex.-Can i use your pen?
-Prego(instead of the most used "Si"(yes))
Welcome to my house --> Benvenuto a casa mia

"bagno" is the room with toilet,shower,bath,sink...
the translation for bath is "vasca"

Second question: Does "Il bagno" mean a "bath" (a thing you get into to wash yourself all over) or does it, like the American "bathroom", serve as a euphemism for "toilet"?
Please can someone enlighten a confused Englishman?

"You are welcome" is an American expression, although it has started to be used by some British speakers. It might have been useful to add that "prego" is a response to "grazia" or when handing something to someone (I presume that is correct?) rather than what someone might say as a visitor enters their house ("Welcome!").

isn't Arrivederla a formal way to say goodbye?
i'm going to Italy next summer
Any further explanation as to what situations one must use the informal and formal form would be greatly appreciated.
