until now, it's scary to live in :S

Let me ask you something; in what sense is a skyscraper, a huge, impractical tower that needs many more resources than smaller buildings, not a wasteful creation? All skyscrapers are "wasteful" on materials.
BalmungSama0 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
"I have this brilliant, revolutionary, original idea that will capture public interest and imagination all over the world, and the building is totally safe and self-powered, cheap to assemble and will be completed in just 18 months!" "I'm sorry, but you're using too many materials. It's not that they're in short supply, or that it'll be so expensive to build that we won't make a profit. I just don't like how many building materials you use."
BalmungSama0 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Yes, weather-proofing every floor and ceiling. You're complaining he's using too many materials. Either show me how desperately short in supply these materials are, or shut up. Honestly, what do you care if it will need more resources? No, not an architecture student. I'm just not an idiot who feels about complaining when a man uses more materials than normal in building a tower.
BalmungSama0 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
I could be wrong about the carbon fibres. That's just my memory. But your complaint went from "too many materials" to "those materials aren't green enough". His tower will power itself, and will have enough surplus power to power a few other buildings. It puts it on equal or greater terms with that zero-energy tower in China, which, as a structure, is still wasteful (using all those materials to build a giant tower that will be used as nothing more than a penis symbol to other countries).
Nihendo (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
You are freaking delusional. It's like talking to a little kid that thinks he saw Santa Claus. Until you face reality is impossible to convince you of anything. If you are an architecture student please ask for a refund on your tuition. You do not have any concept basic structural principles. I'm trough wasting time on you.
Nihendo (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
OK so he will use one of the most toxically manufactured materials - carbon fiber - and he calls his building green. Listen if you want to buy the snake oil go ahead - but you cannot ignore basic principles in the process. Also, nano-tubes have not been developed yet on a large scale. For your information all towers are not wasteful. Zero Energy Tower in China is an example. As for my complaints here is another one. Separated floors means you have to weather proof every floor and ceiling. Waste.
BalmungSama0 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
If I remember correctly, it will incorporate carbon nanotubes; the same materials used to assemble the shimizu pyramid in Tokyo. As for exactly how the pods will connect to the core; I don't know. The blue prints haven't been made public, he doesn't go on TV and reveal the secrets of his design. Wanna know why? Because he's not an idiot who would give away such valuable secrets. So, other than materials, got any other complaints? BTW, the very idea of a sky-scraper is wasteful.
BalmungSama0 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Many of your complaints are just ridiculous. "Wasteful core"? Are you joking? Your complaint is that it needs a few more materials? I'm sorry. I wasn't aware this would make the building unsafe. nor was I aware of the immense shortage of concrete, steel, iron and carbon. Never mind the energy it saves. Never mind the time and manpower saved. Those metals are in very short supply.
Nihendo (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
What are the materials. How will the cantilevered pods tie into the structure? What I meant by reinforcing the core was that it would have to be reinforced to compensate for the moment of a cantilever which is much greater than the force of a column so it would have to be greatly reinforced using much more steel and concrete making it a very wasteful core. Also the depth of the floor slab would have to be greater using trusses even more steel and wasted height. What are these magic materials?
