Mathematics is beautiful, but we must also recognize that all we are doing when we "discover" something new in math, is re-expressing something we already know. There are no real "discoveries" in mathematics, but it is aesthetically pleasing to the mind when we are able to re-express mathematics in various ways - that's what defines its beauty. The foundations of mathematics rest on a fragile philosophy. Enjoy mathematics, but don't place too much importance in it, it's not "truth."

How do you KNOW that beauty is not creatable with a computer? So many people seem to assume that, but they don't have any reason to believe it, they just "know" it. |
